Can we all appreciate the fact that Breakdown was probably one of the few Decepticons that actually cared for the well being of his fellow Decepticons. Like in Episode 10 “Dues Ex Machina” when Starscream extracts the energon from a random vehicon and breakdown tries to reach for him, like wanting to help him but knowing he too would perish if he did.

Or when he has a coversation with a Vehicon

he just a protective giant that cared for the wellbeing of his friends. ;____;

Honestly like…tfp megatron needed starscream to be a twitchy, paranoid, insecure mess, he needed him to feel worthless and expendable and he needed ppl to think little of him because if starscream really truly wanted to, he would probably be a great leader of the decepticons. When he canonically got the chance, he was competent and practical and he didnt have all that personal petty bullshit with optimus getting in the way. Of course megatron humiliated him and belittled him and did his best to undermine him and isolate him, if he didn’t starscream might have garnered some genuine support among the ‘cons and actual fucking sucessfuly overthrown him

I dunno, I think one of my favorite aspects of Soundwave’s character is how it’s not blatantly obvious that he “is” a character? He never monologues like Optimus or Megatron or Starscream, and he practically blends in with the background in most episodes (this one being one of the exceptions). You kind of have to tune out and look past whoever’s speaking and moving around at the time in order to notice him struggle or cover his optics, and in a non-meta sense, I think that’s the way he prefers it.

Two is Company; Three is a Crowd

  • “The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing”

I find it very interesting – and done on purpose, I’m sure – that Soundwave is always on the right, and Starscream on the left (with the exception of pic #3 which was fanmade by someone else). Soundwave is literally Megatron’s right-hand man. As for Starscream, well, there’s an age-old belief that the left side is associated with negativity, evil, and all things bad…

one day

one fucking day

people will talk about Arcee the way they talk about Optimus or Starscream

and there will be pages and pages of tag conversation about this expression and how devastated she looks and how she doesn’t even struggle when Megatron has a blade to her throat

because right now she can’t see anything worth struggling for

fuck I am gonna get Arcee feelings all over your dashboard and there’s not a thing you can do about it

things Orion does in the books pre-war:
– goes on multiple starlit walks to think about megatron
– goes to a bar to hang out with Jazz (his best bro) multiple times and cannot shut up about megatron at all
– risks his job to illegally contact Megatron, spends nearly a whole shift thinking about what to say, then once he sends it he spends the rest of the shift F5’ing the page to see if he got a response
– says Megatron brought his Spark to its full brightness
– says Megatron gave voice to a “longing previously unknown”
– Ignores several messages and warnings from Alpha Trion (his dad) and Jazz (best bro) to hang with Megatron
– daydreams about leading a revolution alongside Megatron

– goes on a big field trip by himself just to visit Megatron in person

– “Orion what are you gonna do if this becomes a violent war” “I’ll be there to counterbalance anything Megatron does, then. Together”

From the ‘Covenant of Primus’ book; Solus’ main entry (note transcribed with some errors here) and image.

I find it interesting that even though they try so very hard to stress that it’s just a processing difference you guys, it doesn’t really mean gender there are no genders they still made Solus so very distinctly female, and feminine, in appearance in so many ways…while none of the others are at all.  Especially the more ‘form fluid’ individuals, who you would think would have room for that without making anyone uncomfortable, are all big and burly and either emphatically masculine in design or emphatically alien-beyond-identification (cough Amalgamous and his ‘explosion of parts’ portrait cough).  I mean goddamn.

Similarly, I’m not thrilled that her story in The Covenant terminates in such a typically ‘token female, token romance’ kind of way.

What I ALSO find interesting though–and in a much more positive way–is the way she isn’t just ‘a’ creator or a part of the creation process but she is THE CREATOR, and she and her tools make for the totality of that process, both ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’.  Seed and womb and all the other gendered imagery that tends to make its way into creation entities is neatly tied off in her little blurb up there and it pleases me.  And let no one ever forget that Solus was the one who took point charging into battle against Unicron.  Because yeah, we revisited that.

She builds shit!  She breaks shit!  She does not take shit.  Her MYTHOLOGY, her place in the mythology, is so much better than the ‘after the legend’ bits she got it’s kind of staggering.

On which note, though,

I think we’re allowed to declare The Wreckers a Girl’s Club now.

Bulkhead, Breakdown and Bumblebee have 4 blunt fingers

Ratchet
, Wheeljack and Optimus all have 5 blunt fingers
All of Wheeljacks fingers seem to be missing a joint, safe for his thumbs

Arcee
, Airachnid, Knockout and Starscream have 5 slim pointed fingers
Airachnid and Starscream both have very long digits, while Knockouts is each missing one joint.

Skyquake/Dreadwing and Megatron have 5 pointed fingers, and Megatron is also missing one joint on each finger.

Soundwave has very unique hands. He has 4 long thin fingers, with the tip of his wing sometime acting as a 5th finger for support. They are all missing a joint, and he seems to be able to move them sideways. He doesn’t have a palm or a wrist.

The vehicons/eradicons have only 3 fingers, all three of them missing one joint as well.

* Most autobots have blunt fingers while most decepticons have pointed fingers. Breakdown and Arcee seem to be the only ones so far to be an exception to that rule, and Arcee tends to be more ruthless than most autobots, while Breakdown was, well … Breakdown.

* Bulkhead, Breakdown and Bumblebee are all fighters, while Ratchet is a medic, Optimus used to be an archivist and Wheeljack is a scientist in most of his incarnations. The first group has 4, while the second group has 5 fingers, and I wonder if that is somehow related to their professions.

* Now, allow me a moment to giggle at the fact that Starscream and Knockout share their hand type with femmes.
